Re: does anyone know

Well Pilgrim (John Wayne favorite caption), my grand paw gave me one back in the late '40's early 50's.

Problem I had with it was no spool lock, no free spool, no variable drag...........

May have been the Mercedes Benz of the day, but after comparing to the most pristeen Mitchell baitcaster, a real looser.....Mine's around here somewhere....now let's see...where did I put it. Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Re: does anyone know

That's what I'm talking about; pearl marbled (looking) handles and all. 8) Went along with my Shakespears President which was not alum, but SS and more of the pearl marbled looking body and handles with the same problems.

I mean you could fish with them, just wear a leather cover over your thumb so that when the fish started a run you didn't wind up with a blister on your thumb (many times I do remember) trying to stop the spool.

I thought it was great too, when I was 10, but after I grew up and could buy the Garcia 4500 baitcaster, (red) the Pflueger went by the wayside. Back then I didn't know any better.

Now it is not to say that a collector wouldn't love to have one in a collection to go along with a hand made rod of the day (Made in the USA), but I'm not a collector; I use mine.

OOPs. Maybe that first Garcia was a 4000, (narrow spool) not a 4500. I forget as my usage is a half dozen 5500c's which I dearly love and put up against the best open face spinners, even into the wind; but I have some of them too, just for those wind casts on windy days. 8)
