I have only covered my boat for one quick 25 mile jaunt and it is the factory cover that fits well. I had a strap or two that must have been able to touch side of boat and it left a nice black mark! Had to scrub it pretty good to get to mostly go away...still slightly visible.

first ding of any sorts on the new boat...

i didn't put a cover on the times out before that OR AFTER!

I am thinking a cleaner wax would take care of the black mark issue...will take care of it on my next full wash/protect.

If we're just headed to a lake for the day that is within a couple hours of home, no cover, but when we head out of town (longer drive) with the boat I put the factory trailerable/mooring cover on it, it comes below the rub rail, has two support poles, and fits very tight. it has a draw string at the stern and probably 8 tie downs on each side which makes it take a while to put on / take off.

I'd like to have a nice snap in bow cover made for it with a support pole for the shorter trips just to direct the wind up and over the windshield.

I believe my cover DVD (yes instructional dvd...) said not to use the poles while trailering.... is that typical?

See a lot of mention of using poles while trailering.

mine is a factory ratcheting cover (ratchets on each side just below rubrail in zippered compartments) and also has backup straps down to trailer. Dowco brand.

24 years of being trailered with the original mooring cover. A few seams came loose and had to be sewn, but after this amount of time that's to be expected. Its gets sprayed often with silicone spray, keeps it from drying out.

I don`t trailer with any cover on for a couple reasons. I have about a 40 mile trip to the lake and the roads are in good shape. I go topless for several reasons; I do not want to damage the cover, or scuff the boat, the cover is large and bulky to store, plus the trip home is a good way of thuroughly drying out the interior before covering it when I do get home.

Interesting. I guess it depends on the design of the cover. I have a custom cover that would be useless without the support poles, towing or parked.

Interesting indeed, I can't see my cover not being ripped off without the poles keeping it tight, they stick through sewed in metal grommets in the cover. It came with the boat so I have no clue about it, I don't remember seeing anything about it on the poles, i'll have to look. Maybe I've been doing something I'm not supposed to be doing, but I'm used to that, LOL
