Re: Does new engine turn you off.

I bought a 1993 boat in 2009 that had been repowered in 2005. The previous owner stated he did it for more fuel efficient injected motors and I had no reason to disbelieve him. The repower was done in a professional setting with Mercruiser mechanics. I used to get comments about how nice the boat looked and most didn't realize it was a 1993 model. I sold it last year with less than 400 hours on the motors. The outdrives were in great shape when I bought it and sold it, and everything else on the boat worked. So, my answer is no, a repower would not concern me.

"Rebuilt Engine" worries me more. I don't trust anyone to rebuild a motor these days.

I know this is an OMC thread but watch this video. I have two of their complete power packages and bought their re-powered motors instead of new primarily to escape the catalytic converters.

I do agree though that you have to pick the right shop for the job. I've seen a lot of people get screwed by going for the low bidder. :blue:

Once its started and ran its no longer new, but low hours is always a good selling point.

Guess I can't judge as the last 2 boats I've purchased had no engines. But then they were both outboard engine boats.
