Does Sta-bil cause extra smoke?

Added Sta-bil marine formula to gas tank couple of weeks ago, without running the motor. Next time running the motor, it smoked a lot more than usual. Blue/white smoke. I ran the motor for quite a while. Ran fine, but continued to smoke more than usual. Does the Sta-bil cause that?

Short answer-no.

Bluish smoke is usual sign of excessive oil burn either due to incorrect mix, or ring problem, or non concentric bores. Im sure there are others on here who could give you better answer though.

Are you running a 2 stroke? Or 4? If 4, then valves are suspect.

Also if its 2 stroke- are you using premix or vro sytem?

Are you using seafoam? That will smoke more also.

What speed is it smoking? Idle? Trolling? Wot?

I have never seen Stabil cause smoke in any of the engines that I use it in, including my four strokes.

Ditto. THe smoke may be just a factor of colder temp's.

we use stabil in the gas for the drills at work, and it makes the gas smell like burning pickle juice, but that is in small 2 cycle motors, not large 2 cycle motors

On the day I noticed more smoke, it was pretty cold - probably 45 degrees. Does running in colder weather cause more smoke, especially at start-up?

Theoretically yes if the motor is cold its clearances are slightly looser. Were talking thousandths of an inch but... As motor warms the metal expands tightening it up. Its while its cold with larger clearances that more oil flows around rings causing smoke. Juat think of how a motor overheats and seizes up. Metal expands until it seizes, reverse is also true in cold

One of the byproducts of combustion is water vapor...which can quickly condense in cooler weather...looking like smoke.
