Does the bilge pump.......just lay on the bilge floor or is it secured down?
I apologize if this is a stupid question, but I can only see about 1/10th of mine and I need to get it out and install a new 1 that I'll order from here tomorrow.
Thanks !

I can barely see mine under the 350 mag. I'll stand on my head tomorrow and start the process of pulling it so I can get a new 1 ordered and installed.

a lot of pumps just lay on the floor....this is not factory....a factory pump is attached to the boat.

a good trick is to make a small l bracket out of scrap alum and bolt the bracket to the transom...use 3m 5200 on the screw holes

Doesn't matter as long as it is in the low area and stays upright.

Many are simply epoxied to the bottom. In fact it may be easier to install a second pump than to try and replace the existing one. Depends on what you find, and how easy it is to get at.

You sure told the truth that time!!!!!

I installed a new, higher GPH pump in our V-20. I couldn't see nor feel the old pump (and we have just the 470).

The new pump has a wider base and just sits in the aft most bilge well. Should I need to inspect it for debris I simply fish it out via the discharge hose.

In my tinny boats none of the pumps have been secured, I'm debating whether or not to bolt them onto a bracket, it would keep them from moving around, but on the other hand it will make them harder to pull out and clean out if something clogs.

Re: Does the bilge pump.......

This is one of the things that needed fixing when I got my boat. The prev. owner did not take care of it the way he should have. It does have a mount & the screws were rusted on the battery hold down strap & bilge pump (there you go, didn't even know enough to use S.S. screws), so the bilge was just flopping around in there. Mine is an O/B so it's very easy to see & reach. All is good now & that "YoYo"(prev. owner), would not even know it's the same boat now. I'm looking at an all in one bilge pump now for $35. It has the auto float built right into the pump housing. I'm sure it won't mount to the same spot, but I'll 5200 it down in a few small spots to hold it upright, not so much that it can't be removed, just enough to hold it tight.
