I'm a Veterinary technician in the Army and we occasionally see military members privately owned pets to keep our skills up. We have a saying, when doing an exam on a dog, we determine when the exam is over, when doing an exam on a cat, they determine when the exam is over. LOL, and its the truth. We can wrestle a dog down and muzzle it, but a cat that doesn't want to be handled is too agile and you will get your eyes scratched out. I used to help out at a local vet's back in my teenage years in England for a short time and got more than my fair share of scratches from the feline visitors. That is until an old vet that had been around forever taught me how to "wrap a cat" in a large towel. It took a lot of practice but it can be done. The cat is powerless once properly wrapped and can have whatever treatment is needed from there. You do have to keep a tight hold though as all it takes is one paw to get some movement and you have to start again. You get the "if looks could kill" from them after though and I am sure they would remember the next time !!!

This is Otis. Christmas present for Mrs. Angus after losing our Golden in October to lymphoma. All he knows is "NO" and "OUCH". Those needle teeth are nasty!!!

This reminds me of our Toypoodle/****zu cross. Has to have her own pillow.

all of my pets are rescues.

I think Tasha understands everything i say. and reads my body language also. she knows before i even say "get you leash" she is out the dog door to the shop, before i say "lets go to work" it is freaky that she is so attentive, and can predict what the next thing is.

Shadow, RatTerrier, is dumb as a box of rocks. he is just too high strung. to get him to concentrate. finally taught him to sit. he does know lets go. but thinks everytime i walk by the leashes, it is time to go.

then there are the cats, Kiki, who is 11, minds very well, i trained her with i was ill and not working. sits on command, comes, fetches. kinda like a dog/cat.

Sammy, is my Munchkin, he is head strong, almost self sufficient.

all the animals use the dog door.

Both cats are Black.

Mine too! Strange how they just read our body languge. Kiska , our ( my) husky knows what I am thinking too! If I just contemplate taking her with me, she knows and will be waiting at the door for me to take her to work.
The others 2 are just knuckleheads. But they can tell time like an atomic watch. bedtime, eating time, 8:00 out time, 10:00 out time.....They are like, well, clockwork.

our Boxer knows some english, some commands as well as play, treat, ride etc.

our toy poodle however speaks spanish. she must because she doesn't understand a single english word I say. (And I don't speak spanish)

We have a young female Beagle, Daisy, and a 7 YO male Lab, Bear. Daisy is pretty smart despite her more hyper nature. She knows:

Bunny
Coyote
Treat
Eat (don't agrere on the Vowel thing as they both seem to understand the difference between eat and treat)
Walk
ByeBye
Mommy
Kids names

Bear on the other hand knows pretty much everything, and he doesn't approve of Daisy's exemption from many household rules, like digging through the trash or getting up on the the table or sleeping in our bed, etc. etc. etc. Mommy's little girl

Some say theirs read body language, Bear reads minds. He also knows what time it is and what day of the week . . . The most important thing to him is Frisbee and we usually don't say that word, but he knows that 4 PMish is the most likely time and will look for me around then. He only looks for our local newspaper on Saturdays.

I have 3 cats. they know "C'mon Guys", and run to me like the wind, indoors or out....
They all know "no", and "get down"

I have never served these cats soft food, or anything canned, yet they run for the sound of a can opener...

being fixed and dry food will keep the litter order down also. Sammy ate dry food for day one. did not like it moist. they both turn their noses up at canned food.

I have 2 chocolates and 2 cats.
The one lab is just a bonehead. All he wants to do is play.
The female wants to hunt all the time.(ok by me.lol)
The female cat just wants to hug allk the time.

The border collie/malamute. She has since passed away. Hind quarters gave out. We had to put child locks on all the cupboard doors that contained food. Otherwise, as soon as we left the house she would be in them. I don't know how many times I had to pick up garbage that was strewn all over the kitchen floor. She would even go thru the unlocked door and reach around to the garbage.

You could as her, "where's Raechel",my daughter, or any one else in the family and she would then look right at the person.

We were at a lake once and the collie spotted some ducks and was trying to figure out how to get them. The idiot lab never saw them and just wanted to play in the weeds.

The Lab will do whatever it takes to please the heck out of you. She follows me all over the house. Can't move without her at my heals....
