Did you sign an agreement? If so I would be interested in what was written there.

Never thought an indoor dry stack was unusual. Most here that keep their boat on the trailer keep it at home or in a storage facility and tow to the ramp. Repair facilities are packed as you described. The is a shortage of shoreline everywhere. Many marinas have wet slips, outside and inside dry slips. My marina has all 3 types. Although I purchased my indoor dry slip the marina rents some too. Buying is like a condo-- HOA fees cover insurance, amenities, and unlimited fork lift service. Every time the boat is removed from the water staff rinse the hull and flush the motor while on the lift before putting her away. No expensive ugly bottom paint, no exposure to the elements, and no pelican poop.

I've never seen such a facility up here. I second what shrew said- the boats stored around here are packed intight. They get get moved around as and when needed.

There isn't a marina in existence that would allow that. As grub mentioned, they would have absolutely no problem cutting it. And if they didn't cut it, they would just use a bucket on a tractor to pick up the front of the trailer and move it. Lock doesn't make a difference then, although it will scratch the paint like crazy on the bottom of the tongue.

I live in colorado, there are probably more marinas In your city than there are in this state. Haha

All the boat and RV storage out here is kinda self serve like the storage unit places with a gate and a code. I don't think there is a trailer there without a lock on it.

Look at it this way. The marina has work to do and it involves gaining access to a boat that is behind yours. Maybe it needs to be launched, or maintenance performed. What ever the reason, it requires yours be moved. In your world, they need to call you so you could come to the marina to ensure they move the boat to your satisfaction. Its a Monday and when they call you you say you will be there later in the week. How ludicrous is that!

Indoor dry stack is the only way to go.

Agreed! When we lived in Wilmington we kept our boat in dry stack at MarineMax and their service was great. Just call ahead and let them know what time you want the boat in the water - and it's there ready to go. When the day is over just tie up at their dock and they fluch, wash, and haul it back into dry storage for you. I know that they move boats around in the rack to make room for others, however I myself nor my friends never had issues with them damaging our boats.

But then again, not all marinas are the same.

I really doubt if any marina would ever agree to not touch your boat while you are away, unless you are paying for a dedicated slip or rack.

As an example, what would happen if a fire started and they needed to move your boat?

The marina my family has used its a requirment that you leave a key with them incase something happens. And we are not talking about a 50K bow rider we are talking about $500,000 sail boats.

Re: Does your Boat club or marina move your boat without you knowing?

Thanks for all the replies,

By blocking my trailer I ment that I like to leave blocks under the front of it instead of letting the jack support it. I am not sure what they did, but they bent the jack.

It is at a boat club, there are no professionals moving boats, only people looking to get their manditory hours in. As opposed to the the mechanics where I have 100% confidence that they know what they are doing when they move it. My boat could have been moved by people that have been drinking all day long. There was never a contract, it use to be assumed that out of curtesy you would be called but new politics have taken hold. I have let the officers know I am upset, but nothing they can do to clarify the rules till next year.

They really had no good reason for moving it either time, some one wanted to put their RV in my spot because I had a good area. They didn't move everyone. This last time they moved it 25 feet in front of where it was because they thought it would "look better". There was no emergency. We have about 300 boats on a peice of land the size of 4 football fields.

Its just politics and its frustrating.

Sounds like my club. I'm part of the haul/launch committee now. I can't think of a time we moved a boat without the owner present or aware of it. Other than a small 14'er that we rolled back to swing the travel lift by, and put back in place. I can however see a boat being moved if it is in the way or in danger and getting ahold of the owner is not possible.

I didn't know that Bayliner made a $500k sailboat with a 5.0 in it? Must be pretty sweet!

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Re: Does your Boat club or marina move your boat without you knowing?

The place I store my boat has clearly marked places where to put your boat. This was before the expansion, but the general layout and gist remains the same. There should be no reason to move someone's boat without their permission unless they have packed the area too tightly. Now, I'm in the midwest and there is no shortage of storage areas, but still, the only reason I can think of needing to move someone's boat in a non emergency situation is if they pack the storage area too tightly.

They move mine all the time. No worries for me.
We only have a few months of boating and limited space at my Marina. They put us 2 deep over the Winter, and they move us around Spring/Summer to get the "Slipped" boats uncovered and in there slips. Then we have our designated spots until Oct., when they moves us around again.
