So to add to my frustrations this season with my 1993 Force 90, I recently lost my boat keys  I had a copy made but never tested it out and it doesn't work :facepalm: Is there anyway to get a key from Mercury? Or do I have to buy a new ignition? thanks.

Never done a boat ignition, but on vehicles, you take the tumbler out and it has the cut code on it. You could have any lock smith make the key with that code.

Or take out the entire ignition switch and visually check it to know exactly how many terminals and structure (long or short shaft) and replace the entire unit. It will cost almost the same if not cheaper with a generic new unit. They have them here on iBoats. Note, take a pic of the wiring or draw a schematic of it before disconnecting.

Force does have some keys, but you will need to know the letter or number stamped into it.

Try the local Mercury dealer.
Take the boat to them and try the keys they have in stock??
According to the parts list the keys have letters A B C D E
They run $2.36 each.
Possible they use a later Mercury switch but it doesn't show in the parts diagram.

So basically if you order one of each type of key that will be a total of $11.80 which is cheaper than a new ignition switch but you only end up with one key. As soon as you find out the right stamped key, you can order an additional one for $2.36. And the total shipping will be $3.50 for a grand total of $17.66. The only advantage is you do not have to dismount and replace the existing ignition switch and the disadvantage is, are you positive the ignition switch is still the original switch? Decisions, decisions, . . .

Personally, if it doesnt cost too much more, i just prefer to replace cheap parts. Its peace of mind knowing that its new/not 20 years old..

Went to the dealer and he hooked me up with the right key. Thanks for all the input....I was worried that I would have to cut wires/replace ignition on top of the work I already have to do....
