hello from the east.<br /> I called our volvo warehouse supplier today to order a dp-E drive and was informed they are no longer in production. have you heard anything about no more 290 style DP drives from volvo? <br /> I almost fell off the chair.<br /> means a lot of unhappy folks in the near future if true.<br /> I have one that they ran the upper out of oil due to an input yoke seal failure and the upper handgrenaded and about all I can save is the box. the lower chipped the pinion and fwd gear so I was looking to replace it rather than rebuild it. the cost of the rebuild is getting close to the cost of a complete assy. the inner propshaft seal area is pitted as well.<br /> the parts list is close to 3000 and the labor is almost 800 but if I cant get it I guess I have no choice.

Haven't heard anything like that, the DP-E isn't used anymore, but they are still making them (or that style) for replacement.<br />I'll have to check with our parts guy and see if he has heard anything.<br />With as many of those drives out there, I couldn't imagine them stopping now. Shoot, you can still get 270's complete.

I dont really trust our supplier.<br /> occasionally they dont do to much research.<br /> for some reason we have to order engines and drives from south carolina warehouse not from volvo in chesapeake VA.<br /> its a bit odd but it is what it is.<br /> I am with you, as many of the 280-290 DP drive floating about its hard to believe they would cease production.<br /> and to convert this jack shafted 25" carolina classic to an SX style sheild will be more trouble than its worth.<br /> and now they are telling me that the adapter plate to adapt the SX style to the old swedish shield cutout is only rated to 300 HP and this hull has a 385HP 8.1.<br /> man I am just ready to retire to venezuela and go fishing.<br /> warm weather,cheap beer, good looking wimmins,supurb fishing, and all the premium unleaded I can burn at 28 cents per gallon.

Ill have him check today. Volvo does have repower centers for buying complete engine and drive combinations. But I know we order drives right from Va. when we have freight time.<br /><br />Yea, they changed the transom shield on all the big blocks a couple years ago. Won't fit into the indent of the adapter plate. Plates were cracking.

We don't have any problem getting them. Just ordered 2 for stock. They are just called a DP drive now, not a DP-E. Sounds like your supplier was having a bad day.
