dont know? flooring weak through out

I just received a boat, the transom has tiny cracks its 1972 tide craft 15 ft all the cleats need replacing everything is sound,the floor inside, weak floor has cracks. <br />the boat is fiberglass. <br />what materials should i use to replace floor. cheap way. <br /> tear off existing deck inside? what would i see.where to start front or back of boat.<br /><br />michelle

To start with i would just take a skill saw and cut a hole out in the center of floor at a soft spot, set the blade at about 1/2" just start small untill you figure out what you have under there, you don't want to hit the hull, then remove all the floor and check the transom if the floor is gone the transom more than likly is too, take all the bumper rail off and lift the top off, and brace the hull so it won't deform when the top comes off, the stringers I used 3/4" and replaced the floor with 1/2" and transom with 3/4" douglas fir plywood and covered it with resin and glass mat, the whole job took about $500 and a lot of sweat, cussing and a big mess in the yard. Thank you all for the great advice.<br />i like the ply wood idea, with couple coats poly.<br /><br />and no i do not want a flower planter. lol<br /><br /><br />thanks for the advice Sergeant, <br />U.S. Army Veteran, 1987-1998<br /><br />my brother is sergeant major was in for 15 years.<br /><br /><br />i lifted carpet and were 3 spots that are soft. one with a crack. i will cut into them this week. i will post what ever i find for more advice.<br /><br /><br />for some reason i feel the need to fix this boat. <br /><br />crazy girl-here
