Currently draining old milky lube from my LU. PO used Blue Permatex on all three, no seals. Can I just buy rubber orings or do I need to buy mercury/Sierra ones?

O rings are very nice for sealing and OMC at one time used a screw with a special groove in it to accept one. HOWEVER: In your case, in order to tighten the plugs so they don't work out you will need to overtighten the O rings. Don't use them!

You can buy seals for an OMC or Merc from the local dealer at about 15-50 cents apiece. It is simply a 3/8 seal and any outboard brand that fits will work.

OR: Make your own out of some plastic from food containers-- But really, they are so cheap, why bother?

Thanks Frank! I guess I'll make a run on Monday.
