Drain plug help needed

I have replaced the transom on my 79 century 3000. My old transom setup had just the outside brass fitting with three screws that attached from the outside. Resin was used to seal the transom wood through to the inside. No tube.

Is there a brass fitting that can attach the same way, with a brass plug, and has a tube connected to go through the hole to the inside of the boat?

help appreciated

Which type of expanding foam?

Which type of expanding foam?

I have done some stringer and deck repair and want to apply some insulating/flotation foam. I tried some with a 4lb rating but it did not expand nearly as much as I anticipated.

Which foam is recommened for filling voids between hull and decking. I hope to gain flotation, sound reduction, and hopefully firm the deck just a bit. Any suggestions on where to buy it?

thanks

Ed

Okay I merged your threads. No real need for a seperate thread for every question. ;)

The drain plug is called a garboard plug found here http://www.iboats.com/Boat-Parts-Ac...rboard plug--searched.1--session_id.294000852

It is a good idea to seal the wood that it passes through with 3m 5200. As far as the 3 screws on the outside ...... be sure to drill a pilot holes for them and also seal with 3m 5200.

Yes there are many designs to choose from.

do you mean to just sort of paint the 5200 on the hole through the transom ? (with external garbor plug and 5200 thread seal)

Floatation foam needs to be mixed and poured in a warm enviroment (above 80*F) for maximun expansion. It will expand at cooler temps, but you'll get maximum expansion in warmer temps.

I like the USComposites products, great service and quick shipping and the best prices I've found online.

Yes, and or you can use epoxy resin on the wood. You just need to seal the wood through that portion of the transom and the epoxy or 5200 will due fine. 5200 is some great stuff!

I would also use 5200 on the garboard plug and use that to seat the brass female section as well as the new screw holes.

5200 can see water in 24 hrs but actually takes a week to fully cure.

I think what Bob is saying is use the 5200 for Every fitting screwed in or pushed in to secure your plug !

Do not Seal your Plug Threads itself with 5200 .. they are pipe threads and does NOT NEED sealant.

5200 will cure underwater .. if thats what your question is ... its droopy stuff you can use it if you like whenever ..

YD.
