When you say "ran the bilge pump nonstop," did you mean you would switch it on every now and then to see if it pumped out any water, or did you mean that you flipped the bilge pump switch on and left it on for the entire time you were in the water? I ask because I don't think most bilge pumps can run dry like that for long periods of time without burning out something like the impeller.
If you ran the pump the entire time while boating, it would make me feel a LOT better to run a little water from a water hose into the bilge area of the boat (not much, just enough to fill the bilge area to about halfway up the bilge pump) and turn on the bilge pump to make sure it is still pumping water.
