It's a '95 Alpha Gen II. After first trip out this season I found an oil puddle under the outdrive.

It looks like it's coming from the shift shaft where it comes out of the gear housing. (see attached photos)

Any thoughts on what needs to be done?

If you have oil leaking around the drive shaft, the seals have probably gone.
Fishing line discarded ice bags etc. could have been caught and ruined the seal.Or it just went bad. If your mechanicaly inclined and have access to the removal tools it's an easy fix. In the St.Louie area the corrosion on your drive shouldn't be too bad.If you plan on keeping the boat invest in the OEM manual. It will guide you through the repair and tell you what tools to buy.Or take it to the dealer.$$$$$$$ The money you spend at the dealer you could buy the tools and possibly fix it your self.

Did you just change your Lower Unit Oil over the Winter? I did this, and noticed the same thing you have, same area of leakage. What it ended up being is there is a little pocket further back up there in the Pic 1 behind the Shift Linkage, that held the oild that came out when I dropped the Lower unit.

It leaked for a few weeks, then I went out there to clean it really good and used Greased Lightening to get it all removed, and sure enough no Leaks again, but make sure you spray up into the lower Unit around that linkage. Then wash it all really good with the hose, and mine stopped.

I've been looking at other post as well as Don S's link to the service manual. It looks like the oil is coming from the top not the bottom - just below where the the drive shaft bellows attaches to the outdrive. I don't understand where that oil would be coming from.
