So finally got a new starter and got my engine running. wanted to test putting it in gear FW and Reverse. when i put it into fwd, there is a clicking sound in drive. i didnt mess with anything , just simply had drive off for gimble bearing change. can you view this video link and tell me what might be wrong?

in fwd, turning the prop CW will click. shifting into rev it will click CCW perfectly normal. Start it on muffs and check shifting

That's normal when checking by hand.
When in FW it clicks in one direction and won't turn in the other.
The opposite is true when in reverse.

Ok, so i was running it on muffs and it was clicking in fwd. so out of these tests.....

With the engine off and shifter in neutral the prop should spin freely in both directions without any clicking noise. If it clicks, you need to adjust the upper shift cable.------THIS IS TRUE

With the engine off and shifter in forward the prop should lock counterclockwise, and click/ratchet clockwise.-----THIS IS TRUE

With the engine off and shifter in reverse the prop should lock clockwise, and click/ratchet counterclockwise.---THIS IS NOT TRUE..IT SEEMS TO SPIN BOTH DIRECTIONS??

pushing the slide back for fwd will shift into fwd, you have no pulling action to get into rev

pulled drive back to get a look and everything looks fine! the rectangular shift slide? is properly around the little half ball and the shift shaft (L) looking shaft at bottom half of the drive is engaged properly. i can only get the propeller to spin clockwise w/rachet noise and it locks of i try reverse. neutral also is fine, but when i engage reverse it spins freely. not sure what else to check or what could have happened? help

Nevermind, as weird as it sounds that when in reverse i can spin the propeller both ways....when i ran on muffs and tested, it was fine in fwd and rev...now for the ultimate test- take it to lake to see if all my repairs worked and corrected the root cause of the intermitent shutoffs!!!
