I saw on the news that LEO'S are entering bars & arresting people that they say have had too much to drink & fining the bar staff.....
How can any self respecting Texan allow their freedom & rights to be abridged in this manner?
What in the name of Sam Houston is going on down there? ..... :D JK

Had a couple of beers with this dude last week from Austin and he brought this very issue up. I guess it is true.

Yep, I saw that.

I hope the laws are changed as they are too ambiguous.

A bar is a public place, but it is private property.

This is the same as a police officer writing a speeding ticket at a NASCAR race.

Ken

Texan's are finally turning into politically correct wusses. They were holdouts for a long time, but in the end they couldn't withstand the tide.

Yep, its true. One guy was arrested in the hotel bar, the hotel he was a resident of. He says he was fired in part due to the arrest.

My theory on catching drunk that may be driving would be to stake out the American Airlines center after a hockey or Basketball game. Ameriquest Field after a Baseball game, or if you really wanted a big haul, Texas statium after a Cowboys game. Maybe I am off, but those would seem to be a good place to start. If they needed night time searches, Deep Ellum or the West End would be good places to look.

If the person isn't causing trouble or being loud etc and not trying to drive then who cares?

What are they going to do?
Have one BAL 0.08 for driving a crime and
another BAL 1.5 for sitting at a bar a crime??

Where's a drunk gonna go? ;)

Scotland has followed the US lead on banning smoking in public places but I don't think they'll follow this one.......we haven't got enough sober cops :D :D :D

This is a carefully crafted conspiracy to demonstrate to the Congress just what happens when you have a badly written law that you have neglected to enforce fully for generations, then try to catch up overnight.

It has little to do with drunk driving. They are even arresting Hotel guests in the Hotel where they are staying.

That is essentially what the House is trying to do with their stupid new immigration law. Maybe this will get their attention.

Will our living rooms/kitchens/yards be next??? Hmmmm...anti-alcohol movement or just revenue enhancement? Eaither way it is an invasion of privacy.

Let's cut the chase, get them brown shirts and black boots..... reward others for turning people in.

I warned of the KGB when NY started the no-smoking in a "private establishment"{bar}. Nobody gave a crap, now it's be carfull of drinking in "private establishment"{bar}. Tell me how Hitler would have handled this ;) . Laws and more laws pretty soon we won't be able to pee in a public rest room.

Actually Bob its already true. Just as the bars have a certain time that they can't sell beer anymore (usually 1 am on weekday, 2 am on weekend, and back it up one hour in most rural areas) so does your home. It is illegal to drink after those times no matter where you are. I think thats the biggest bunch of bs in the world but its true.
