Neither chacoal, nor mothballs will keep your cabin dry.
There are products designed to keep boat cabins dry and I suggest that you go to your favorite marine retailer and see what they have and what would best suit your beeds. The folks there can help you decide.
Not sure about the charcoal, but the moth balls are to prevent rodents - not moisture. You want some kind of desicant bags. Marine stores typically have them. The ones I use are made for gun storage and work fine.
Charcoal is just good for removing smells as it acts just like baking soda. For removing smells it is better than baking soda. For keeping the humidity down use DampRid Refillable Moisture Absorber. They are well worth the price. I use the new extra absorb one for a garden shed 13'x16' to keep stored pesticides and fertilizers dry and it has worked great so far.
