We're outside in the sun a lot and get these sun freckles/spots on our skin, mostly on our faces. I've watched my doctor burn them off with dry ice on a Q-tip, fairly painless, lasts a couple of years before they re-appear......but, Dr. charges me about $500 and insurance doesn't cover the procedure.....I can buy dry ice at Publix for $5.00 and I'm confident I can burn these off myself.....Anybody ever tried this?...success or failure?....any thoughts or ideas?.....Thanks....

Are you sure it is dry ice? I had it done once and it was liquid nitrogen.

He burns off the ones he knows are ok to burn off. Problem is he knows what is potential skin cancer and what isn't so I certainly wouldn't do it.

Never seen dry ice used for a procedure like that only nitrogen. I actually tried liquid nitrogen on something I had on my leg when I was young and foolish. I kinda over did it and the big red spot was the diameter of a golf ball.

I had a couple of moles removed last year...$20 co-pay

FWIW: Frozen carbon dioxide (dry ice)= -109F .....liquid nitrogen = -321F

Why remove freckles? I find them attractive.

I guess if you think about it, a freckle isn't real thick, so dry ice might do the trick, you might want to use a tool to hold the dry ice, so your fingers don't fall off instead.
Good luck, post some before and after pictures.

Well, my freckles look and feel just about like they did when the dermatologist did them...sorta crusty, blistered....so far so good!...they'll probably peel off in a few days and I'm gonna be real pretty again....for a geezer!:joyous:

While one can understand the costs associated with a Dr's visit (overhead, liability, education) I can certainly appreciate a man willing to tackle a procedure himself...I mean isn't that kinda the essence of the iboats forum...we're all too cheap to pay someone to do what we can do for free?

I'm not implying we all start brain surgery (Hmmm?), I'm merely suggesting that all good scientists experimented on themselves...ya know, back in the day?!

Good luck Mr. Graham...may all ye' freckles be removed and all ye' wallets be full!!

The smart ones didn't experiment on their own faces ...

That darn dermatologist that did my freckles a couple of years ago spent at least a minute on me with a Q-tip dipped in dry ice stuff....and I told her, heck, I could do this!....she charged me about $580 for that minute...I just had to give it a try, but think I'll pass on the brain/vasectomy type procedures....like Clint Eastwood says, "you gotta know your limitations"....so far, so good!....

Do your own vasectomy?

Heck no! I've got pretty good health ins. Went to a urologist and had it done...as a side note, the assistant/RN was a cute 20something blonde girl, which made a nice plus...I told the wife some cute little blond touched my junk! I would've missed out on that for a self-initiated vasectomy!!!

RG, let's see some before and after pics?

I watched that about 3 times and it works just like the guy said.....it's just a very simple procedure for a DIY type....
