Hi folks, I am installing new OEM dry joint manifolds and riser gaskets on a 2003 4.3 v6. It uses a restricted gasket. Does it matter whether the restricted part of the gasket is facing for or aft? The old gaskets appeared to be facing forward, but it is hard to tell since the risers were already removed. The merc website appears to show them facing aft. 0M619777

Thanks!

Unable to find anything which identifies direction. All gaskets that I can remember which have orientation requirements (head, intake, exhaust. etc) are marked accordingly. Without any orientation marking I would say they should be able to go in either direction.

Below is the drawing from the Merc website. You can clearly see it shows the restricted gasket in the rear. I wonder how many folks install them this way? Part # 9.

Per Don S and Mercruiser, we're not supposed to use the parts catalog as a guide of how to install parts like this, it's only a guide of what parts you need and in some cases it can help give visuals of "where" to look for certain things.

The question of gasket orientation seems to come up often on forums for the OEM dry joint exhaust. The link above is a good one for the dry joint exhaust system or use Mercruiser service manual # 37.
