Hi, i have a 1992 suzuki dt140 hp outboard. Engine runs fine until i engage it into forward or reverse, then it stalls. If i raise the revs with the choke, or put it int forward just after engine starts, it will power the boat no probs. Its just the stalling that is really irritating, as it's not safe to manouver the way it is.The boatyard has told me they have exhausted their diagnosis for it, but that is to do with recent issues i have with them.Any ideas what may be causing it to cut out.

Re: dt 140 problem

Sounds like a simple case of dirty carbs. Please dont jump in there and squirt carb cleaner in there. Spray carb cleaner is only for cleaning the outside of the carb. Even then it destroys plastic parts and finishes.
If you dont know when the carbs were last serviced then chances are they are dirty. I always check the compressions before doing anything else because a bad cylinder can give the same symptoms.
