DT 15 Air Filter?

Greetings,

This is my first post on here so I hope I have placed it in the correct place and apologize if I did not.

I recently purchased my first boat which has an outboard (2 stroke) Suzuki DT 15 (I believe 1986). I was having some issues with it today so a friend of mine took the air intake cover off and we found that there was no air filter. Is this by design? I looked at http://store.brownspoint.com/pdf/DT15(86-88).pdf (on page 5) and there is no mention of an air filter.

Thank you for your time!

Think about it -- not much dust out on the lake is there? Outboards do not have air filters nor do they need them. The box over the carbs is an air intake silencer, not a filter housing.

Fantastic and thank you! Now, while we had the air silencer off we noticed that there was some gunk in the carb. Do you think I just need to run some carb cleaner in it?

And, the pollin in the air isn't bad for the engine to suck in?
