DT 60 gear rod

Hi guys im hoping someone can help

ive just swapped the impeller on my dt60 but when i dropped the leg of i think the gear selctor rod has come to far up

whatever it was attached to in the gearbox it no longer is so my quetion is how on earth do i get this back on ??

ive looked at the end cap behind the prop does this need to come off??? to re connect the gear rod??

does anyone know weather the spool unscrews or pulls out as it doesnt seem to want to budge??

does anyone know weather the bottom leg on a 55 hp 3 cylinder suzuki will fit a dt60 hp 2 cylinder as i have found a spare engine for breaking??
