i just got a suzuki from a friend, its a 88 140 andwhen he got it a while back i remember it had some gauge hooked up on it, he called it a smart gauge, now its gone he cant find it, the original problem he had with the motor was it would run good in the driveway then when in the water it would only throttle to like 2500 rpms then it would start to beep and hit a rev limiter, well now i got it started and it beeps all the time as soon as it starts, just wondering i that gauge HAS to be hooked up or if its something else making it beep

It will always beep when it first starts but it should stop after a couple of seconds. If it continues, it would mean no oil flow, no water flow, or high temperature.

I have a 89 DT140. The gauge that you are referring to is a Suzuki Monitor Gauge Assembly (per BrownsPoint).
