Dt150 works fine, change stats or leave alone?

I have a 1993 DT150 that runs fine, I've had it for a couple of years and I use it all the time. It's nearing time for annual maintenance, what I am wondering is if I should preventatively change the thermostats (at that age) or if its better to just leave them alone. No idea if they've been changed in the past. No temp problems, even when I'm in a canal with a 97 degree water temp.

It all depends. Lots of folks recommend changing every year or 100 hours or whatever. The fact you're in salt water would make me think it's about time to change them, along with the water pump impellar. My motor is a 1999 freshwater motor and it's still got the original thermostat in it. Depends on where you're going also, like several miles out in the ocean would be a bad place to overheat your motor, whereas if you're never more than a mile or so from your dock fishing, then the overheat probably wouldn't be life-threatening. If it's on your mind, then maybe go ahead and have these items replaced so you can quit thinking about it and enjoy your boating. Good Luck!
