What is needed to remove the 1/4" lower unit plate that the water pump housing attaches to? Need to replace the lower water pump seals and the shop manual really doesn't say much. Thanks in advance, Tom

Re: DT30C water pump problem

Go to brownspoint.com and go to 'parts'. Locate your model and click on it. The drawings will show that there is two 6mm bolts to remove abaft the pump housing.
These plates are a bugger to remove. They tend to freeze up on the pump studs and the bearing housing. If the plate gets distorted it wont seal when reassembled then water will get in the housing. If you have a dealer handy you might want to take it to him and let him sweat it.

Thanks, and no kidding about the bugger part!
There's really no way really to back the studs out and I torqued the 6 mm jack bolts til I thought surely the thing was anchored on the back side to the drive shaft! Guess not though.
