I have a dt 75, out of water, running with fresh water from earmuffs. Motor
starts fine ,idles a little rough, revs up fine for a little while and then takes off to around 4500 or so and will not come down unless I smother the air intake and then it will idle. Is this happening because there is no load on the prop or do I have some work to do?

Re: dt75 runaway

Over revving on muffs without a load is not good and a "run-a-way" may be the result. I do not think that you have a problem, but you may want to check your timing.

Never rev above fast idle without a load.

Also, you may want to do a "decarbonation" to remove carbon buildup inside the combustion chamber. This may also contribute to a runaway.
