I did a search on here, and did NOT find my particular issue. (I did learn a lot of additional information though! Thanks everyone!)

I am trying to replace the water pump. I have disconnected the the clutch rod on top under the carbs. (I do NOT have the grommet on the side, but I was able to back off the nut until it was free of the clutch rod.)
My problem is trying to disconnect the lower "connector pin" as shown on Page 400 of the Clymer book, Figure 73. My unit's "connector pin" does NOT look like this! My clutch rod descends to the top of the lower unit, and has a rubber cup at the entrance to the lower unit. I have lifted this rubber collar upward and found a machined metal collar around the descending clutch rod. This metal collar is held down flush with the top of the lower unit by the water pumps casing base with those forward reaching "forks."
How/what do I do to disconnect the clutch rod from the lower unit?
Thank you all very much in advance!
