Looking at a new stereo for the boat. Anyone using a Dual system? I'm looking at the MXCP66 system. Looking to be able to use my ipod or a cd I made. Anyone have this system, likes or dislikes?

Re: Dual Marine Stereo

Dual is definitely a low-end brand. If you're just looking for something cheap and aren't too concerned with the sound quality, you'd probably be happy with that setup. But as someone that is always concerned with getting good products for the money I spend, I would definitely recommend going with a better manufacturer.

Alpine's are great, Clarion makes some good ones too. Sony's not bad either, but I'd go with one of the first two over them. If you're looking for speakers too and don't end up getting them in a package deal, I'd recommend going with the Polk db line. They are great (marine grade) speakers and aren't all that expensive.

If ipod integration is your goal, I HIGHLY recommend this unit http://www.overtons.com/modperl/pro..._AM/FM/Satellite/iPod_Docking_Marine_Receiver I just recently installed its automotive equivalent in my Honda and I absolutely love it. I was literally waiting for them to invent something like it and jumped when it came out. When I got it I thought it would be ideal for a boat because of the additional protection and easy storage it would provide and ipod. Sure enough they came out with a marine version.

My Lowrance HDS-8 with the Sonic Hub comes with the iPod docking station but what I really like (prefer over the Iphone) is the usb port. I just rip my music to a 4gb thumb drive, plug it in and listen. If you find the stereo you want I would look for a USB option and forget the CD's all together.

Thanks Brick & Ezmobee for your inputs. Ezmobee does the face bring up your songs that are on your ipod once it is connected? Looks very sweet setup. I just may have to spend a little more.

Yes it does. And it's one of the few stereos I've used that can actually do a decent job of navigating your collection. I've got an Alpine unit in my truck that is so painful that you pretty much need to just unplug the ipod, navigate to what you want to hear, then plug it back in. The Sony works well.

I know what you mean. I have a Sony in my truck with just a aux in on front panel. Great stereo but I just plug it in and let it go random.

Re: Dual Marine Stereo

I dont know about the "marine" version, but Dual is a TERRIBLE name brand in my experience! I currrently have one installed in my truck and I hate it! I am not trying to bad mouth Dual, but that is just my experience. I may have just got a lemon but I hate it. It randomly turns on or off, the display disappears, it will all of a sudden turn to the max vollume instantly, with no warning! But, I have always heard, "you get what you pay for"

Good luck.

Thanks Guys, looks like I'd be better off spending a little more for something quality. I guess back to the old saying: You get what you pay for!
