Re: Duct tape and plastic
gentlemen,<br />keep the plastic and duct tape for your boat, don't go wasting it on a useless protection sceme. as one of the military folks here with some recent atfp training, i can tell you the threat is minimal. if iraq or the terrorists find a way to drop a legitimate nuclear device on our soil, then maybe you should get inside and hide. but the cbr threat just doesn't really exist for most of us. chemical and biological agents need to infect a person to become dangerous, either through inhalation or contact. ususally, the amount must be significant. if osama sprays you in the face or throws powder at you, i'm sorry but you're probably done. but the delivery method is the challenge, and the bad guys don't have too many good options. a dirty bomb, the topic of the day, doesn't present much of a danger to more than the unlucky few within about 100 ft of the detonation. the blast will kill more than any agent it's paired with. crop dusting is another popular media topic, but again, the amount required to be deadly presents the problem. if the plane flies 10 feet over your head with no wind present and dumps, maybe he'll be effective. but the wind will probably disperse the agent enough to make it useless. the only real danger, based on the effectiveness of the delivery, is contamination of a water source. in large quantities, a bad guy could contaminate our drinking water. but trust me, our government knows this and is protecting our water generation/treatment plants. enough of the lecture, just wanted to get some facts out and try to cut down the scare. enjoy life, do what you normally do, and pray for our troops- the real ones in danger.
