I run my '55 7.5 hp 'rude at WOT all the time.

I used to run my '72 50 hp 'rude at WOT all the time.

Well over the weekend which coincidently was the 1 year waranty expiration for my '03 90 HP Merc classic 2 stroke, I ran it at WOT for a couple of miles.

Felt great. Wind was in my hair. Water was flat. I was up on the pad turning 5500 RPM at 51 miles per hour.

Can I break anything that wouldn't break at 4500 RPM?

Fuel mileage sucked but who cares?

Tx.

Joe

No stupid questions, just those unasked.

Run it. That 3-banger loves to rev. You'll only hurt at the fuel pump.

Re: Dumb Question...Actually Really Dumb.....

My inline 6 will run at 5900-6000 all day if I want it to, but the gas tank will empty real quick. I rarely go over 4000 with it because I would actually like to not run out of gas, but once in awhile I like to run her wide open, just to let her know I still love her....

that is where it is designed to run. other than your wallet it wont hurt it. be aware though that you are at the engine design limits. DO NOT allow any of the lubrication, fuel, or cooling system components to degrade in the slightest. if you must run at or near WOT then you must be very proactive with subsystem maint or it will DIE.
good luck and keep posting

Re: Dumb Question...Actually Really Dumb.....

i just purchased an 04 alumacraft navigator 175cs with an 04/03 merc 90hp 2 stroke. i dont run it wot too often but i do it sometimes for thrill. my rig tops out at 45mph and 5500 rpm. i love it. but i found out 45 is pretty fast on the water. i had same concerns as you about wot. but they are made for it. have fun :)

I run my toon with a 91' 70 HP at almost wide open all the time and in the 10+ years I've had it, no problems. And that's at 5700-58 RPM's. Go for it...
