Re: Dumb Question?? Where is the **** hole ??

Here is an update on my problem,, As I wait for my impeller to arrive I pulled off the lower unit to prepair it for the new impeller. I found the old impeller to be shredded and cracked. I am glad I did not try to start this motor and wait for the water to flow. I also did a check on the thermostat to make sure it opens I pull in in some water and waited to see it open. I works now I will need a thermostat kit too. I had a question ?? Can I keep the thermostat off just to be sure water is always flowing and not be guessing. I live in California if that make a diffrence

I just found a post with this same question, I will go ahead and order a thermostat kit and install it before my next start up.

Two things.....

Look for the tell tale hose...... trace it and use a piece of weed trimmer string to clear it out. It is not unusual for a bug or two to make a mud home inside that hose so make sure the hose is clear.

On the 55-75 hp inline triples there is a modification that re-routes the tell tale hose. I will try to look it up but it also prevents overheating problems.

Yup, replace that impeller and you will be 75% of the way there.

Wow, I received my impeller and Thermosatat kit from iboats today, very fast shipping... Once I get home I will install both to my 76' Johnson 70HP, will I need any sealant on the thermostat gasket? or just the gasket it self? I don't think there should be any reason to worry about starting it up now with a new thermostat kit and impeller in place, once it reaches the proper temp. the water should just flow strong.
