I'll never attempt to fix my boat again. Took my 24' FourWinns VP duo prop off to repair a ding. Once I bought the special prop tool, I thought it was pretty easy. Putting things back on wasn't difficult either. However, once on the water taking off, I noticed alot of slip and heard noise from the lower unit (prop area?). had high RPMs but no speed. Went back to the dock immediately. Any ideas? I don't have atow vehiele so I need to get someone help get the boat out of the water.

Thanks

You may have "spun the hub" in one or both when you ding'ed it up.

I suppose you could mark them, try it out and see if marks still line up, or take tham by your closest prop shop.

There is no hub. They're solid props and they don't need to be "timed".Did you put the spacer under the forward prop?Is it facing the right way?Did you torque them? These all can cause a problem.Take to a Volvo shop and let them check it out to be sure before you have more serious damage.

Re: Duo Prop Problems

Feel bad for you on this one. I own a Chap 260 (2003) w/ VP GXI DP 320 hp and was just thinking about the same thing severasl weeks ago. My props are fine but I wanted to purchase the special tool to get the forward prop off but the service center told me it would cost $55 so I have hesitated based on that quote. Does anybody have recommendations or experience in the size rachet to take off the first nut to remove the rear or first prop? My mech. indicated that it was 1 3/16 but indicated that you must put both props back with a torque wrench. Can anybody recommend a special type of torque wrench or just go to an automotive store. Thanks.
