I have a 85hp Chrysler/force outboard that everytime I put in the water and try and put in gear to drive forward it makes a metallic noise then dies. I put the rabbit ears on it and it goes into gear right and will run. Anyone have any ideas what it could be. I was told maybe sheer pin by a friend. Would appreciate help thanks!

Re: Dying force

There is no shear pin. Now, it depends upon what you call a metallic noise. If it sounds like grinding, then you defintely need to drain some oil and look for metallic particles. If they are present, then you need to open up the lower unit and check the gears.

If it is a "rattle", then you may have more than one problem: worn drive dogs, incorrectly adjusted shift linkage, and too low an idle speed.
