Re: E-mail Software for Win8......

I use Outlook and have switched my email server to Microsoft 365. It's $4/month for 25GB for the email server and now all the emails are not permanently popped down to my one computer anymore and all my devices get synced with both email and my calendar appointments.

If you aren't backing up all your old emails from their pst file(or express equivalent) and your hard drive crashes, you've just lost all your old emails. Better to have them in the cloud.

I can't stand Yahoo or Gmail as my main email.

Here's what Wiki said about Thunderbird:
On July 6, 2012, Mozilla announced the company was dropping the priority of Thunderbird development because the continuous effort to extend Thunderbird's feature set was mostly fruitless. The new development model is based on Mozilla offering only "Extended Support Releases", which deliver security and maintenance updates, while allowing community to take over the development of new features.

Not sure I understand the hi-lited..........

Comments?

Bruce, are talking you about MS Office 365? I've thought about a cloud type access........

I believe if I use Gmail or Yahoo my address will change. That's what I don't want to do..

I take that to mean that Firefox are done with spending time and effort developing it (they state it fruitless). The community they refer to, is I would guess is the internet/computing community. So basically if folks out there want to develop Thunderbird further, then it's OK to do so, but Firefox is not.

On the email bit, in this day and age, I don't understand why someone would pay for email, when there is so much good stuff out there at no cost? But each to their own.

Yes it is. I use Outlook at home and built in email on my android and iphone devices. The nice thing is that when you delete an email, it shows up on all your devices immeditely. Same goes for calendar appointments.

Its the exact thing my company that I work for uses. They used to have their own exchange server and decided to just go the Microsoft way. Another option is Google apps but I have heard MS is better. One of the few things MS actually does VERY well.

I have my own domain name so moving it over from the people that host my website was done by a 3rd party that MS pays for completely. If you decide you want to try it, I can forward you their name and you can contact them.

I always thought the same way. After having this for nearly a year, I can't believe I didn't do it sooner. I do run a business through my website(rental vacation home) so my email is my name/domain name. Google or Yahoo was not an option plus I hate the online user interface when I need to log in that way. When I am at my day job, I use the online Outlook to get my email. Blows away the user interface on Gmail and Yahoo mail.

Funny thing. Ha ha We have Office 2010 and use Outlook for e-mail, not Outlook Express.:facepalm: At some point we converted from Express. I have the disk and loaded 2010 on the LT. I guess all I need to do is get it to talk to our e-mail server and I should start getting new mail......

I see they have Office 2013 too. I would suppose a guy could migrate to that or 365 pretty easily from 2010?

What an easy set up. Asked for my address and password and it auto found the e-mail server. I'm all ready to roll. We have 2 e-mail accounts. The one account, the mail in the inbox shows up fine and stays there. The other account, it shows up for about 30 seconds then disappears. Gone. Vanished. Everything still shows up on the desktop pc.....

I use the Office 2010 app. No need to upgrade to 2013. We use 2010 at work and they let me install for free at home.
