Re: Eagle Depth finder Question
I think it is a fine unit for Salt Water unless your fishing deep for bottom fish. The vertical resolution of 320 is fine out to about 300 feet with 4 times zoom. Deeper than that I would look for greater resolution if you expect to see small bottom fish.
The unit has enough power for out to 400 to 500 with the narrow cone angle.
At 300 feet with a resoultion of 320V each pixel will cover 11.25 inches so will not see small bottom fish like rock fish without zoom. With 4 times zoom each pixel will cover 2.81 inches and you should be able to detect fish with a height of over 3 inches.
Also just so you know the the transducer is 200 Khz at 12 degrees cone angle and the 50 KHZ is a 37 degrees cone angle. The narrow cone angles are actually better for deep salt water than the standard cone angles.
The narrow cone angle of 12 degrees for the 200khz unit is not the best for waters under 100 feet. However if you want to fish shallow you can add another 200 Khz transducer later for the 20 degree cone angle.
To fish deeper than 300 feet I would suggest a vertical resoultion of 480 or 640.
