Re: Early model 115 Merc Distributor problem

The correct way to fix this problem would be to replace the whole trigger part.... but if you're handy :) it might be possible to solder on a new wire
( might need to dig into the trigger to get enough free wire ) .

You could also find a good used distributor on eBay, but they tends to be on the pricey side ( all Mercury 6 cyl distributors from 1970 > 1979 should work ) ....

The best solution would be to get a replacement trigger unit from CDIelectrinics ( CDI P/N : 134-3736 ) .
Link to some extra info about this kit ( PDF file from CDI ).

Re: Early model 115 Merc Distributor problem

Hello,i was able to splice the one wire to the distributor and got it running and it seems that there is a problem with the trigger it would run for a while and just stop.and there was some crackling noise coming from the dist. cap and started it again and the same thing happend and i noticed that there was some drops of resin inside the distributor cap when i cleaned it out so my guess the trigger is no good.in the process i had bought some parts off e-bay off of a 85 hp 4 cyl part#337-4479 this one is different and has one wire that is a different color (grey instead of brown)and is encased in a little white plastic housing and the one on mine is part #393-3736 and is coverd with resin.my next question would be would this one work on mine, just tought i would ask before i went and spent $250.00-$400.00 on a new one, which would be my best bet. Thanks for the help and input.
