Cant tell you much. But the streamlined leg may indicate A later production true Mercury built
motor. Based on the early Mercs with the
streamlined leg.The true Thor Sea kings serial
numbers began with W1 in 1936 and ran to W11,000
in 1939.I believe the Thor based motors had a
primative lower unit.In 1940 Kiekhaefer introduced the new Mercury motors and I believe
the Thor Streamliner was based on that design. The 1940 K1 merc was the same as the 2.5 Sea King.
The book The Legend Of Mercury has a chapter on
the early Thor mercury efforts. You may be able to find info at www.aomci.org or Johns Old Mercury Web Site.

Re: Early SeaKing Info?

I'm sure you are right. The model numbers nail it the same as the Merc K1. However, the other numbers are strange and not referenced on ANY old motor manuals I've looked at. It seems to be an "in between" motor (maybe in the transition from Thor to Merc). I saw a pic of the head in a 1940 SeaKing ad that looked identical and said it was 2.8hp and 27lbs. I'll try the aomci.

Thanks,
Bill

http://www.momentoffame.com/snapshot.html?id=61519
