We've had 'em here in the Midwest before, gets real noisy. Got to watch where you walk and fishing is going to suck due to the free food.

Hmmm...
Only 1 New England state part of this brood. Wonder if we have a separate brood?
Interesting.

Look out for the "Attack of the Killer Cicada".

The sky is not falling. It has happened every 17 years since forever. Hasn't hurt a soul. Kids get to collect the shells and the Cicada wasps thrive. :)

Along with this comes Cicada Killer's.(Wasp) They look like a bee on steroids. They catch cicadas and eat them. The problem with them they return the next year and the next and the next.

The only way i know of to get rid of these is to bat them out of the sky with a badminton raqchet or pour water in the hole when it's dark and step on them when they emerge.

Oh yes the noise they make can be deafening and can go on for a long time. Hard to believe that those little Cicadas can be so loud. But it can be great fish bait too. Have to look at the bright side of things... Around here in middle Georgia we had them a few years back and it was amazing how many holes were in the ground around the trees where they dug themselves out. It looked like somebody took a 1/2" drill bit and went crazy drilling holes in the yard...

We get 'em every year, but the BIG hatch is avery 13 years ... It can be a bit of a hassle, but it's over in a couple of weeks.

First good rain after the come out, I will have a coffee can full of them and be at the lake! The rain knocks an amazing amount of them into the water and it is gorge-fest! Lots of fun!
