Hi all, I have a 1996 Volvo Penta 4.3L V6 that I pulled out of my boat at the end of summer. Had to replace to rear main seal and decided to replace all gaskets while I had it out as well as full tune up and oil change, man that stuff sure is easy when it is out of the boat on a stand. Anyway, I was wodering if anyone has ever started a motor like this up while on a stand or cherry picker. I could hook up the batt and a hose to the inlet of the pump but not sure about how to start it or what I would need to do electrically to do something like this. Would like to start it up and double check for leaks before it goes back in the boat. Thanks

You can start them, but not on a stand or hanging. It must be on the ground sitting on blocks. You need to have exhaust manifolds on it, and water circulating, but I do it on every engine I work on that is out of a boat.
It takes some prep and setup, but it's a great way to make sure things are fixed.
