Presentation is important. The better you can spruce it up and get great pictures, the better it will sell for.

Talk it up well, if you put new parts or impeller in it, mention that. If it comes with controlls and cables tout that. Let them know it's beloved.

It's important to let them know this is an in-service, turn-key, motor. Any work needed seriously detracts from interest and value.

All that said, becasue it's so *old* of a 115, somewhere between $500 and 1k is the most you can hope for. And I'd bill it as "early 70's" , that's not a lie. It might go better in a couple months too. Shipping kills the value local pick-up helps. Offer to drive up to say 100 miles to meet the buyer to extend your range and value.

You'll do your best if you offer to help rig it to the boat with the new owner if he'll bring it to you.

I wonder why you're splitting it up from the hull it's on?

-W

Addendum: Power-trim = more value.

Also the 70, 71, and 72, 115's convert easily to 135's by changing the reeds out and slight carb mods. Mentioning this might help a little.

I'd offer to buy it wholesale, but I have to pay .33 on the dollar to make it worth it. :(

You can do better.

-W

thanks CC. figured if I split it up from the
hull it might sell faster this time of year.
but for $500-$1K, doesn't seem worth it.
bad time of year to sell a boat, good time to buy.
snow's piled so high in front of the barn right
now, couldn't even pull her out to take pics.
tuff sell to the wife on a new boat right now
unless i can at least partly finance it by
selling MY boat.

Re: ebay listing price for 1150

Were it me I think I'd hold off till the beginning of "the season" and try to sell the thing as a package deal.

That said, older boat / motor / trailer setups still don't fetch a lot of money on the open market.

You know, another way to get into a new(er) boat is to do what I did. Though it takes a lot more work. I bought a 2000 Seaswirl with a 115 Jonnyrude on it, (very little use) for about 9k on Ebay. Then I found a buyer for the 115 Jonnyrude and rigged the outboard/controller/ignition harness in thier boat for 4k. The rigging is what cinched the deal. I drove away with a virtually new boat and trailer for a measly 5k, plus gas, plus a couple days of time. Then I rigged my beloved old Merc on the new boat in the driveway. Lastly I sold my old hull (88 Four Winns) and trailer for $400 just to make it go away fast.

My point being, the more time, effort, driving, and work you wanna put into getting a new boat, the less money it'll cost ya.

-W
