ebay scam

I ran across this on another site and thought I'd pass it on.

"A few days ago I was sifting through ebay auctions (as you do.) when I came across an auction that was of interest to me. When I opened up the auction, a typical looking ebay message popped up telling me that my sign in period had expired, and I needed to sign in again. Now, normally I might have just gone ahead and signed in again, except for two crucial things; # 1, I had "just" signed in, and #2, My Macaffee's site advisor popped up warning me that they suspect this was a scam & were trying to steal my sign in info. No doubt they wanted to hijack my account so they could sell EOS 1Ds's all day long for $399.
The scary part about this was they apparently had this imbedded right in an auction on ebay.
I reported this to ebay right away, but it still took them a couple hours to pull the auction.
The moral of this story is; If you ever get a reminder to sign in while looking at an auction, "DON'T DO IT!!!" Close every thing down, run adaware (or similar) then open ebay in a new window to check and see if you're still signed in. I was."

Re: ebay scam

It would be great if a window popped up saying that they had won an auction to take out a hit on you. They would then demand that you immediately purchase five EOS 3 from another auction at the bargain price of $399. Upon successful payment, they would reveal the name of the fellow ebayer who had sponsored the auction hit.

It's been a while since I've visited her site... I should go see what new stuff she's got. She really knows her stuff. In the words of Hank Hill... "I'll tell you what, she was on the net when the net was only on a dry erase board."

Re: ebay scam

I think you can use HTML in your ebay listings. If that is the case the limits are virtually endless on ways you can scam people.
