Re: Economy
while certain sectors of our economy are in fact booming certain others are failing. the areas that are failing are in steel, aluminium, large manufacturing and oil processing and refining with some pharmicutical manufacturing all being taken outside the US. the problem with that is once the chinese and some other areas actually see and experience our production methods and teqniques it wont take long to copy it.
most the world is not filled with stupid folks. most have rather repressive governments. once the concept of say an airplane or a washing machine a dryer or a refridgerator is seen in another country its not long until its reverse engineered, copied and manufactured cheaper someplace else.
look at GE,Westing house and fridgedair and see how many facilities have shut down here and quietly been moved and in some cases consolodated in mexico and central america.
I watched Scott mccellan on the TV last night babbling about more Jobs and high payiong ones but he again refused to answer simple questions asked by reporters as to what kind of jobs and where.
a 9 dollar an hour jobs is about a teat on a boar hog today. a college student cant live on it.
in my area rent on a 30 yr old 3 bedroom house averages about 1200 per month, a new home will start at 250K.
two people making 28K a year cant afford it. so they finance themselves to the hilt with cars, housing and insurance then cant afford anything else and if their pay gets a hiccup its off to bankruptcy court.
and the oftimes predatory practices of the lending community does not help.
but I want to know where the good paying Jobs are? maybe some of the posters here can shed a bit of light on it. by good paying I mean a wage that allows for buying a house, raising two kids and still set aside for retirement.
in my area it means an income of 60 K or so.
