Electral help

Does anyone know if my 71' evinrude motor has a safty that won't let it start.I have power to motor the elec. choke works but thats it. there is no click or any atempt of th motor to turn over. all my light and acceries on boat works. i tried to hot wire it to no avial. any ideas.....Help me please

neutral button should be pushed. have you tried jumping the solenoid.

well i got it crank over but very slow. now then should the prop also be turning or what this one of those so called automatics i guess. it has push button shift. i cranked it over without plugs and cranked pretty fast but then agian the prop was turning same as motor.if this thing was a car id already be driving it. but most cars dont float lol....

Is this the 60 horsepower you have asked about in the past? If so, the safety switch is on the motor, activated by the throttle. It is a small switch riding on the hub of the big vertical throttle lever.

Perhaps you merely have the throttle lever on the control advanced too far? Try pulling it back some.

Ok but what abot the prop. it seems to me that this thing should crank faster if the lower unit wasen't engauged. shouldn't it turn free when in neut.?????

ok but should the prop be rotating eventhough it is in nuet?????? seems to me this motor would crank better if the prop was'nt engauged right???

sorry for double post on that but is there a manual way to shift to neutral?
