The electric choke on my Yamaha 55 EL clicks when activated, but the solenoid does not pull the choke butterflies closed. On closer inspection I foung the following,1.The voltage across the coils is equal to battery voltage 12.8 volts when activated.2.The choke activating switch is working (tested with a multimeter)3. when switched directly across the battery terminals I obtain the same result, viz. The choke butterflies rarely close. I think one of the two coils is shorted out or faulty, thus not giving sufficient pull.If I apply a very small amount of mechanical assistance onto the choke mechanism( light finger pull)then the butterflies close, but will not do so without assistance ( butterfly shafts etc. are free and easy to move)I cannot see any sign of electrical burnout or such like, I think 20 years of service have taken it's toll. what else could be wrong??? maybe someone else has had this problem and has a fix, before I buy a new solenoid, Kind Regards William Wright,
