Electric choke problem

I think I "broke" my electric choke... 1989 Force 50HP would stall and die when I throttled up. I was able to hold the choke (ignition in) and it ran fine for a few seconds, then died again. After that I had no power to the starter/motor. Tried resetting the circuit breaker inside the motor, but ended up having to bypass it to get power. Now I can turn over the motor, but the click of the choke engaging is gone and the carb does not close when I press the key in. How can I troubleshoot the choke?
P.S. I am pretty sure the poor performance/stalling was due to water in the gas. Replaced the gas and will know more once I figure out this choke issue.

You need a test light or meter.
Test light to ground. On the ignition switch, green lead.
Turn key on and push in. Test at green terminal.
Light up? Yes? Then something is wrong at the switch or not getting power to the switch.

I will work on that, but I removed the plug wires and cranked the motor. When I depress the key (still no click or choke) I can hear the power being drawn as the crank "slows down". pretty sure it is in the motor.

Motor runs perfectly fine. Idles nice and smooth, accelerates without any issues, runs great at WOT. Only issue now (since I replaced the gas) is the choke not working. I will have time tomorrow to test the ignition, but I think it is something between the choke solenoid and the control box.

Run 12V from batt to choke to see if it clicks/activates. Ck switch terminals X oxidation. If no oxidation Etc., try TV tuner spray into the switch that might cln contacts in the switch. Good Luck!

The plunger type can get corroded and lock in place.
I use WD and spray as you activate the arm by hand.
