Electric Fuel Pump Runs Continuously

My electric fuel pump runs continously even with the ignition switch in the off position. Matter of fact it was running continuously until I disconnected the battery. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My boat is a 2004 Glastron GX205 with 5.0 Volvo Penta.

check the oil pressure switch

No oil pressure switch on a Volvo. The fuel pump relay is probably stuck engaged.

I just replaced the fuel pump relay and the fuel pump still runs continuously. I also noticed that the electric choke mechanism is very hot. To hot to keep your finger on it so I disconnected both wire on the choke (ground/pwr). I also disconnected the neg battery terminal until I can get this mess fixed.

Disconnect the wires on the choke, then remove the relay and see if the fuel pump still runs.

I removed the wires on the choke and I also removed and reinstalled the new relay and the pump still runs!

Did it run with the relay removed or did it stop until you put the relay back in.

No it does not run when the relay is removed. I'm not to electrically savvy but is it possible that I have a malfunctioning ignition switch? The engine and boat are very clean with only 160 hrs.

The ignition switch does not control the fuel pump, but it does control the choke.
Can you start and stop the engine with the ignition switch?

What is your full engine Model number or serial number?

Thanks, for future reference, you FULL model number of your engine is 5.0GL-E. Volvo like Mercrusier doesn't go by year.

Another question. Did the choke get hot with the ignition switch off?

Try this. On the back of the alternator is a connector with two wires in it. A purple wire and a green wire. Disconnect it and see if the pump still runs.

Also disconnect the purple white wire from the alternator.

I disconnected the purple and green wires and the pump did not run. I also disconnected the purple-white wire only (purple and green reconnected) and the pump still runs. Does this mean my alternator is malfunctioning?

Yes the choke got hot with the ingition switch in the off position.

Here is a wiring diagram for your engine if you should need it. It's from Seloc, but it looks like they copied the OEM drawing exactly.

I purchased an alternator today and will install it Friday. I also had the old one tested and it was in fact bad so hopefully this new/rebuilt one will work. Will keep you posted.

Thanks for the drawing and I ordered a SELOC Tech Manual which was recommended by my local Marina.

I used a drawing from Seloc because it was correct (I checked it) and it was online where I could link to it.
I DO NOT recommend any aftermarket manual, they are all JUNK

Get the proper OEM manuals.
