Electric motor magnets... Glue?

Hi ya'll... Wondering if any of you might have a suggestion on how to go about re-attaching the magnets in an electric fan's pancake type motor?.. <br /><br />It apperars that the magnets were originally glued in... The motor held up well so there has to be some kind of glue that will hold...<br /><br />I have tried JB-Weld and it only held up for about a week which supprised me.. I made sure the surfaces were roughed up and clean..<br /><br />Any thoughts?.. <br /><br />Late for work.. See Ya'll later..

well its just a guess, but maybe hi-temp rtv might do it? i don't know whether contact cement would hold up to the temps either...

Try the same epoxy that is used for reattaching<br />magnets in the flywheel of an outboard motor.

snapperbait, clean the magnet and the case real good and then get you a 2 part epoxy glue, glue the magnet back in place and clamp it somehow and let it set-up real good.<br /><br />If anything will hold it then that will.

I reattached the magnets on an electric model airplane motor, and usey plain ole epoxy. It has held up well. JB weld is an epoxy though, isn't it?

I used marine-tex to reattach magnets in a trolling motor, worked great, just make sure you have very clean surfaces

do as per S N B..<br /><br />J B WELD is good stuff but can sit on 'the shelf' to long.. loses it's 'juice' an become to 'dry'..

I think it was Devcon 2-ton epoxy I used but if I have the name wrong it's the stuff in the syringe that has 2 sides. I used it to put a magnet back onto my trolling motor and it lasted another couple years.

snapperbait, whatever you use, just make sure that both mating surfaces are very clean.<br />This is crucial for any glue to work at it's best.

snapperbait<br /><br />I've had best results with urethane caulk. Its non corrosive, water proof, heat resistant and flexible. Since the magnets and housing don't expand and contract from temperature at the same rate, you need a flexible bond. Windshield bond or gutter caulk will work....<br />

But what about the pull on the magnets schematic?<br />Will it be to great for a flexible bonding agent?

Hi<br />Most magnets are glued in with a flexible adhesive. Urethane is extremely tough. Its used for structural window placement in automotives....

Hey. Thanks alot guys... I was thinking about something flexible but could'nt figure out what... Urethane windshield adhesive.. Hummmmm, Very interesting... Think I'll give that a try this time... Got nothing to loose... Only need to get another couple months of light service out of this fan before I can get a new one..<br /><br />I was suprised when the JB-weld failed cause I've fixed all kinds of stuff with it... I ground the housing insides down to clean bare metal and cleaned everything up with acetone before I glued it... Goop'd it in there, lightly clamped it, let it sit for a week before I put it back together, figured "that'll never come apart" job done... Oh well, wrong again.. I think the heat got to the JB...<br />Thanks again Guys...

if it helps any, i did get a reply from an electrical motor shop- the technician on techhelp wrote that he's had great success with JB-Weld, just have to get the preparation totally clean. and it was a shop that does big motors, like 500hp
