Electric tilt issue - Arrrrrrrgh !!!

From my post yesterday ( thanks TD ) I needed to install a dash mounted electric trim switch for the outboard. O.K. so installed that. Marked all the wires before taking the old one out, installed. Still nothing. Checked every fuse known to mankind - all good. Now the trim does work if I engage the side button on the engine cowling but that's it. For the real kicker after installing the "new" dash switch the motor wants to go down only and won't stop until I switch the MBSS to off. Kinda' like it's possessed or something. Could a new switch be bad? Any ideas would be considered a Godsend at this point. I am not ( obviously ) electrically inclined. Or is that electrically challenged?

The dash switch is redundant as their is also one on the throttle which is also kaput.

Re: Electric tilt issue - Arrrrrrrgh !!!

I have two wires to each terminal:

Top - pink & white
Middle - green & white
Bottom - light blue & black

I'm thinking the dual wire setup 'cause there is the in dash trim switch and also the one on the throttle control ?

I also have no idea why this is the way it is - bought it like that.

The colors on the wires make zero sense to me - looks like I have a fuel sending wire and a oil pressure wire in there somehow. Geez - who wired this mess?????

gcboat, Ive read your posts a few times and still confused.

From what I read, you have 3 trim switches? Throttle control, dash mounted and engine cowling mounted?

You say that the trim NOW works using the engine cowling switch. Did it not work before installing the dash switch?

Why do you think the throttle trim switch is kaput?

Did the trim ever work using the dash and or throttle switch and or engine cowling switch?

What year motor, and what type of trim system? Is it a two wire or three wire type?

Hey Moody Blue'

Yup - three different trim switches. All as you mentioned. The engine switch and the throttle switch are OEM stuff. The one on the dash came from, well - I just don't know where or why. Bought it like that.

Cowling switch has always work.

Since I have zero from the throttle switch I'm just guessing it's a goner.

Yes, they have all previously worked.
