Electrical Trouble shooting

[PMC III]

Mercruiser Alpha One drive, tilt/trim hydraulic motor. The initial problem I found was one of the poles of the lowering solenoid was eaten away. The motor appeared to be okay, but I didn't test it, I replaced the solenoid and the motor would go down but not up... So now I finally test the motor with an ammeter. I have continuity between the blue and the green wire. The only thing I can think of is the motor is smoked. So I ask the forum if there is any other reasons for this?

The motor is fine if it works one direction. The relays just reverse the motor.

Okay but if I connect the wires correctly to the solenoids and I use my meter from side to side I shouldn't get continuity until the solenoid is engaged, right? But I do, until I disconnect the motor.

The problem is still the motor will continue to run down until the timer times out and resets and then runs again, telling me it's getting a signal to run down. I even disconnected the connections to the switch and the motor still runs down???

Any suggestions would be helpful...

Explain how you are measuring continuity.

I'm using a multimeter. The motor is disconnected, I have continuity between the blue and the green, the blue and the black and the green and the black. I seems I have also welded the down solenoid, because I have continuity there and there are no wires attached to it. I just want to make sure it's the motor that caused it before I go through another new solenoid.

I would think you would want to try everything before looking to replace a trim motor, they are like $500., but I have a bravo, don't know if they are the same.

If it is the motor, you may want to see if you can find a motor repair place and see if they will re-wind it. may be less than buying new!

Sounds like you have at least one faulty relays.

Why don't you just go up to the Adults only sticky at the top of this forum, and download the #6 OEM service manual. Then in the troubleshooting section follow the step by step (with wiring diagrams) insturections for testing the trim system.
