OK, after all the effort to get the 1958? elgin 2hp air/water cooled outboard to start, its now time to build some sort of engine mount on a coleman canoe for a river trip. This canoe does not have a transom, so I will build a mount to hang over the rear side, no problem. I can make the mount however I want to optimize the leg depth of the outboard. This little elgin has the cooling tube, and then an exhaust grid of holes perhaps half way down the leg. Is this grid of holes supposed to be underwater (quieter I suppose) or above water, or ?
I do not have, and have not found, any online manual or books on this engine, so mounting tips would be appreciated on how high off the water is optimum for the engine. thanks again to all those who have responded.
